I started this Taboo blog as things like concealing your bald patch or any type of cosmetic treatment used to be thought of as taboo, no one wanted to admit they had something done or are using certain product, but times have changed and what was taboo is now pretty much the everyday norm.
I started losing my hair in my mid 20s, used to spend a lot of time in the mirror carefully placing my hair over the receding parts (comb over) this was time-consuming and frustrating.
Please understand this was NOT about vanity it was more about confidence and self-esteem, I was a shy person anyway so losing my hair and developing bald spots at a young age was a big confidence killer, and made me feel depressed, yes hair loss depression is a real thing and it's horrible!!
I tried many products over the years to help conceal my bald spot and eventually found two that when used together worked very well for me.
I used these products for a few years and they worked so well that people who I met after I started using the products had no idea that I had a bald spot, as far as they were concerned I had a full head of hair.
Obviously this didn't solve my hair loss but it went a long way to help improve my confidence, I was able to go out without worrying about what people thought, the thing I really hated was if I was on a lower floor and people were able to look down and see the top of my head and the great big bald patch I was developing, that made me so paranoid that everyone was looking.
But using some easy to use and not overly expensive products I was able to happily go and and about without that "are they looking at me" feeling.
I will share the products I used with you on this blog, and if they help you like they did me then I can go to bed safe in the knowledge that I helped someone to stop feeling the way I use to.
Toppick Hair building fibers comes in 4 different colours, Black, Dark Brown, Medium Brown, Light Brown and Medium Blonde.
And a variety of different sizes, I usually bought the 27.5g and that would last me over a month (depending how often I used it)
Toppick have a range of other products that you can use with the fibers, these include .
Hair Line Optimiser - this is mainly used to help with applying the fibers to your hair line, I didn't use this as my issue was my crown.
Toppick Firm Hold Spray - This is pretty much like a hairspray, it help keep the fibers in place, I did use this and it worked really well.
Toppick Spray Applicator - Again this was something I didnt use but enable you to get a more precise covering on apllication.
Toppick fibers worked really well and I was so happy with the results, but I did come across another product that when used alongside the fibers increased the results.
DermMatch lifts and assists growing hairs.
Thin hairs will thicken, stand up and spread out for spectacular fullness.
The formula is loaded with botanical and natural ingredients.
DermMatch contains colorants from plant and mineral sources.
DermMatch stays on so well you can swim with it and you can also brush your hair with it.
This is also simple to apply you use the applicator that comes with it and paint (for lack of another word) it on your balding area (this is mostly for the crown) once done, I would use a hair drier to dry it, then I would style my hair, sprinkle the toppick fibers on then finish off with the spray, and that would last all day until I washed it out.
The process sounds long and it will take a little bit of extra time in the morning but once you have done it a few times it takes no longer than it does for anyone to style their hair.
The concealer is waterproof and will withstand the rain, and even a bucket of water being tipped over your head (like that's an everyday occurrence) I never did try it out in the swimming pool but it did do ok in the bath tub before using shampoo to wash it out.
It can be a little bit messy when washing it out, but to be honest the confidence this gave me, a little bit of mess was a small price to pay, this is a picture of me with the products on, if you look closely at the crown you can see the slight difference in colour (I didn't buy the right shade) but you can not tell I was thinning.
